David is currently a Research Fellow at Leeds Becket University's Law School and a member of their Terrorism & Human Rights Research Group. In addition to this he runs his own consultancy business where he provides expert witness services and advice on law and policy related to terrorism & security, criminal law and policing. Prior to this David was a principal lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University's Law School where he managed the law degree programmes and researched and taught terrorism & security and criminal law. In 2007 David retired from the police where carried out a variety of uniform and CID roles including postings to Special Branch. As a result of his research David has many publications in journals, books and newspapers, including his recent book 'Terrorism: Law and Policy' published by Routledge in 2018 and 'Policing Terrorism' published in 2016 by Taylor & Francis. As a result of his expertise David is consistently requested by the UK and international media for commentary on matters relating to terrorism & security, criminal law and policing.
